Auburn uses some formations that look similar to the 'Flex Bone' included with the game but as the Flexbone uses the FB in a halfback role, it's inconsistent with Auburn's playbook. The fullback is used prominently to block but NEVER carries the ball.Wildcat is rarely, if ever used, though this formation was used a lot in previous Malzahn offenses.Auburn will often switch out a wide receiver for an athletic/tall tight end, especially in goal line situations.Auburn rarely lets the receivers get anywhere close to the line, even slot receivers.Regardless of formation, there is ALWAYS a halfback on the field. This formation is used in hurry-up format to run the zone-read, jet sweep, and triple option. The Malzahn playbook walks out in a 'Wing Offset' (or variation) about 50-60% of the time.FIGHT SONG (Gus actually invented this variation IIRC).Option players should feel right at home. If you're used to pro-style, it will be a lot different. I'll include formations used and the basic principles of the Gus Malzahn playbook as seen in game film throughout the year. Suffice to say, the one included with the game is nothing close to what was actually used - Auburn runs absolutely zero I-formation or single back sets, nor are we a traditional 'spread' team. I did some quick research (because I'm bored at work) into recreating Auburn's playbook that was used in the 2013 season. It uses spread tactics, but is unlike most other spread teams. It uses the triple option, but it's not a triple option offense. Auburn's 2013 playbook got a lot of press this year because there really isn't anything like it.
